Deck the Halls and Deck your Neck!
Hellooooooo dear fairies! Welcome!
It's been a busy little start to December, the LAST MONTH OF THE YEAR. I've been microdosing Christmas cheer each day with the advent calendar my nan bought me.

This week I dip-dyed my hair pink to hark back to simpler times, circa 2012 when anyone who was anyone dip-dyed their hair (not me!). I’ve been wanting to try colourful hair for a while but kept chickening out, so I bought the hair dye last Sunday to pressure myself into biting the pink bullet, and dyed it that very same day.
tickled pink |
I only dyed the ends so I could chop it off if I hated it, but thankfully I LOVE IT! It's a little Minaj homage.
Every Friday is Pink Friday <3 |
On Wednesday I went to the cinema with my boyf to watch House of Gucci. What a film! The outfit I wore the next day was very inspired by it.
Father, Son, House of Gucci 👼 |
I gawked at the gawjus Gucci gladrags; Lady Gaga looked so glamorous! I much preferred the film to A Star Is Born, the other film she *ahem* starred in.
I won’t spoil anything but one part that gobsmacked me was when one of the Gucci patriarchs, Aldo (played by Al Pacino), tells Patrizia (Gaga) that he is profiting from the sale of fake Gucci products being sold cheaply on market stalls in New York. This infuriates Patrizia who feels this damages the brand’s integrity, but Aldo doesn’t care if a working-class woman in New Jersey buys a fake Gucci purse because it's lining his pocket$$$$$$$$!

Although Aldo’s stance is profit-driven, I admired his lack of snobbery. I can’t find out if it’s true that Gucci (or other designers) sanction and profit from this fake designer trade, but it’s verrrrrry interesting. Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci
Compare Aldo’s democratic stance to Burberry who burned £28.6m worth of unsold clothes, accessories, and perfume in 2019 to protect the brand and keep their precious nova check away from the proles. Despicable. They didn’t want a repeat of their noughties image crisis when working-class people would serve LOOKS in Burbs only to be trashed by nasty British tabloids.

I digress! Back to the 'fit. I opted for a blouse as there were many a fine silk blouse on screen. I got this unusual pinstriped blouse with a prairie meets pie-crust collar and neck tie from a St Helena’s charity shop ages ago for cheap. I love the way the sleeves balloon over the tight cuffs, and there’s something sort of festive about it.

I paired it with a pinky pastel striped skirt, which seems like it shouldn’t go with the blouse, but I think it does. Perhaps you don’t, but these differences keep life interesting, dear readers. I got the skirt in 2018 when I went to the Big Apple with my family for my dad’s fiftieth. It reminds me of sweeties and the thread it’s made from is glittery. What a confection! It’s not second-hand, it’s from Guess and I got it in Macys (I think, it was many moons ago) for $20 down from $80.
why have cotton when you can have silk, honey |
The butterfly-print silk scarf is my nan’s old scarf from Free Spirit. I love the luxury of a silk scarf, and there’s normally always a basket of ‘em in charity shops. When you’re out of clean face masks, a silk scarf is a stylish substitute.
My oversized celebrity-with-a-hangover sunglasses are from Primark, and I’ve had them for a few years now (impressive, as they’re easy to lose and/or sit on). I’ve never suited those teeny tiny sunglasses, but I love the drama of big shades anyway, especially these with their retro cat-eye shape. Meow! Vicky B would be proud.
the shade of it all! |
My shoes aren’t pictured but unless specified you may as well assume that I’m rocking my New Rocks. I wore this outfit to go to the library and study with buddies, then wore it out again to go to a Christmas Market with my course mates. Ho, ho, ho!
We actually ended up at a bar instead of the Chrimbo market which I was secretly pleased about; call me a Grinch but I think those pop-up Christmas markets can be so gimmicky, and the icky doughnut smells are too much, AND they're always mobbed.
bah humbug xoxo |
TOTALLY WIRED |
I wore a cute stripy thermal top which I pinched from my lovely muvva (sorry mum), and another silk scarf (£1 from a charity shop) which has a tie-dye orange and pink pattern. I like how the two strands of scarf run parallel with my two antennae plaits. Sweet symmetry! I also wore my GAP jeans and the pink zip-up jacket, both of which you dear readers are now familiar with. To re-wear is to care!

'Tis the season for wrapping up like Tisdale |
I'd nick this scarf from 'Nic if I could |
And of course... the great Kate Moss, the boss <3 |
Thank you for reading, I hope you all have a stupendous week. I'm going to end with a whimsical nonsense poem from The Faber Book of Comic Verse that I bought myself in Oxfam while Christmas shopping (treat yourself!).
Love it Meggy xxxx
