Grouse every WKND

 Hey Fairies!

Today the team at RewearyFairy HQ (me, myself, and I) would like to wish my father a happy birthday! He's a very stylish man, an ex-raver, and a veggie cooking maestro. Love ya Boyd!

stay classy <3

This week I read the recently deceased Eve Babitz's autobiographical book of 1960s LA vignettes, Eve's Hollywood, and OMG it's so good! Straight after finishing it I ordered Slow Days, Fast Company... it's safe to say I'm a Babitch now <3 <3. If you love gossipy, glamorous books that have a literary flair, then it's a must read!

I only have two outfits to unveil this week as I didn't get round to photographing any other blog-worthy looks that I wore. I had planned to wear something snazzy today (Sunday) to meet a pal for coffee, but the raining cats and dogs thwarted my plan, so I wore something plain and rain-proof instead.

That's quite enough preliminary blog dillydallying... let's get into it!

My Karen Millen denim tie appliqué skirt (what a mouthful!) that I bought on eBay made its debut on Monday and OOOOH I love it. It's on the mini side as I'm on the tall side, so I was quite the Leggy Sue in it (bad joke, Sue me!). I wore it with my M&S starry tights which must be stellar quality as I've had them for ages, wear them loads, and they only have one minor ladder that hasn't got bigger.

shoutout to my boyf who recommended editing the outfit pics onto a white background... v v profesh

I wore it with a shirt and tie combo that's fabulous enough to land me in the Annie Hall Hall of Fame. The checkered shirt is one that my boyfriend bought in a charity shop, and the brand is Guinness, as in Guinness the gross drink (I only go in for gin/voddy drinks, red wine, or fruity little cocky Ts).

Guinness sucks but it's vintage advertising doesn't!

I tied the Guinness shirt because the skirt is a bit too tight for the shirt to look good tucked in, and the tied up look makes it a bit more casj anyways. The 100% silk paisley tie is one I got in a cheap job lot of ties on eBay a while ago, and it's originally from Debenhams.

nice!

The macabre pièce de résistance of the outfit is an accessory that my bestie got me for Christmas at a vintage fair in Dundee: ladies, gentlemen, and thems, I present to you...

ta-da!

The bejewelled grouse foot pin!

I'm a vegetarian but I have no issue with putting my best foot forward with this grouse foot pin- it's delectable, very Victorian chick, and vintage (so the grouse was killed many moons ago). My friend said when she was showing it to her friends they all thought it was creepy, but creepy has a place in fashion; see Alexander McQueen's 2001 'Voss' show (it was the anniversary of McQueen's death on Friday- rest in peace to a true visionary).

A startling, stunning look from 'Voss'.
Vintage taxidermy is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I have huge taxidermy envy for Dita Von Teese's collection as I only have a box of vintage taxidermy butterflies which I bought on eBay a few years ago.

I googled 'grouse foot brooches' and found out that they originated in Scotland and became commonplace after Queen Victoria requested that men used pins on their kilts for modesty purposes (perhaps she was testy after glimpsing too many testes). Apparently they're also the Scottish equivalent of a lucky rabbit's foot. The funnest fact I found was that they caused problems on the dance floor, as according to Loudon MacQueen Douglas' book The Kilt: A Manual of Scottish National Dress, the claws would snag on ladies' dresses when people partnered up! All grouse foot brooch knowledge was found here Curious Objects: Grouse Claw Kilt Pins.

This next outfit has a mad crafty aunty aura, which, if you ask me, is one of the best auras there is.

loves it!

Even the back is jazzy!

Where to begin? The embroidered bedazzled hessian jacket is originally from Joe Browns, and my boyfriend bought it for me in a charity shop for about a tenner. It rakes in the compliments and you can see why! I love the red stitching too, it really adds to the artycraftiness.

The sumptuous cupcake of a pink rara skirt with the patchwork ruffles is originally from Whistles, but I bought it second-hand three years ago on eBay for (I think) about £5- what a steal! It was warm enough to brave bare legs that day- lurvely.
DISCO!
The sequinned black top I'm wearing underneath is by a brand called Quacker Factory, and I got it in a Naomi's House charity shop for £3. The sequins are in a sort of zebra stripe pattern- wild!

strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in... winter?

I accessorised with some cute cherry earrings that my friend got me in a jewellery shop in Edinburgh; a purple plastic bead necklace that an elderly lady my mum used to clean for once a week gave her; a vintage pink glass bead necklace my boyfriend got me from the Robin's Nest Emporium; and some pink hoop earrings from Primark that my parents got me for Christmas years ago.
starry-eyed
I wore Barry M glitter around my tear ducts, and I drew a heart and a star by my eyes with a black eyeliner pen. I also gelled up my brows with a clear mascara- feral!

The pics below are to provide more mad arty crafty auntie Inso from two of my nearest and dearests (and Tony Gardner from 'My Parents are Aliens'). They're second-hand shopping Reweary Fairies too!
Chloé (top right) is wearing a secondhand mohair muppety cardigan from Depop, her mother's old silk PJ top, earrings she made out of broken hair clips, and my hat that I got on holiday in Lake Garda pre Panny D.

Finn is wearing their mother's hand-me-down Paddington Bear hat, their grandfather's hand-me-down jumper, a crop top from a vintage kilo sale, and homemade crochet daisy earrings!

My nearest and dearests in various states of spangled (and Tony Gardner) at Latitude festival!

Thanks for reading this week's blog, fairies! I promise a full showcase of three outfits next week.
Also thank you to Finn for another Reweary Fairy tagline-

Girls Who Thrift Together, Uplift Together!
-so true bestie.

Happy Valentines' Day for tomorrow if you care for it, and happy Monday for tomorrow if you don't. Pretty please come back next week!
Happy Monday from the Happy Mondays xo

Lots of love and gratitude always,
