London's Calling!

 Salutations, fairies!

I've been to the capital, Londinium, not once but twice this week. I love the Roman names for places, perhaps because I grew up in a town hemmed in by the best-preserved Roman wall in Britain (odd flex, but okay).

I'll get into the what where and why of my London travails as I unpack my outfits. 'Unpack' is such English teacher parlance, I've been studying for too long...

Let's crack on with the unpacking!

On Wednesday I went to the theatre in London to watch the musical 'The Drifters' Girl' with my mum and nan. I'll give you the gist of the story by using the words from the promotional spiel on Nimax Theatre's website: the musical 'charts the trailblazing efforts of the world's first African American, female music manager and how she refused to ever give up on the group she loved'. The show captured the racism the group experienced too, and the double bind of discrimination their manager Faye Treadwell experienced as a black woman.
The cast looking sharp

It was a fab show with a teeny tiny cast (six people!) who played multiple roles marvellously, and my fave bit was when some of the men playing the band members donned big pink Ziegfeld Follies-esque feathers while still in their suits to campily play showgirls.

So, what did I wear?

I wore a cobalt blue silk blouse which I got in a charity shop (originally from M&S) a while back for a few pounds; a tiered denim skirt I got second-hand on eBay (no label in it) ; floral lace tights from a website called Tights Tights Tights ; my boyfriend's grandaddy-cool sweater vest he got in a charity shop (originally from BHS); and my trusty old New Rocks. As I walked to the train station a random lady complimented my tights- babe!

my boyfriend's taste in sweater vests is just as exquisite as his taste in ladies :)

dazzling deetz on the back pockets of the denim skirt

I accessorised with a ruffled seaweedy scarf I got in a charity a few days ago for £2.99 and some cute artsy earrings.

I'm all ears!

The bigger earrings are a pair my WONDERFUL amie got me on holiday in France, and the lil dainty pair are from a gift shop in a Church in Deadham, Essex, that sells loads of jewellery from independent makers.

Onto the next outfit which I wore to go to uni to work in the library and then have a meeting with a supervisor about my poetry Special Project (that's what the module is called, although hopefully it'll be pretty spesh).

I think it exudes Art Collector / Gallery Director energy a la Peggy Guggenheim, hence the arty edits.

little old Reweary Fairy superimposed on a Jackson Pollock painting - "my kid could've painted that" (jks... I do not have a kid)
Peggy Guggenheim was a style icon and a capital C Character! Read this fab article for more on her fascinating life- A New Documentary Takes on the Wild, Strange, Life of Peggy Guggenheim

My Elton John sunnies are from ASOS and I got them in 2018, so the handles are kind of wonky but I still wear them... to rewear is to care!

Peggy 'surrounded herself with a fleet of Lhasa Apsos' (from above Vogue article). What a fluffy fleet.

My sailor style blouse is M&S from a charity shop. I love it so much that when I ate fried egg on toast for lunch, I wore a coat over it to protect it from any egg spillage; yolk drippage is not drippy, my friends (unless we're talking about Loewe's SS22 conceptual cracked egg heels- see below!).

eggs-cellent

I accessorised with the koi fish earrings that have featured here before (they're from an independent shop in Brighton), some fake gold hoops, and this gorge golden glass necklace that I got for £1.99 in British Heart Foundation on Thursday. I did little golden dots of liquid eyeshadow by my eyes to match the jewellery- Midas could never!

I went BACK to London on Saturday for a friend's surprise bday ting in a pub on London Bridge, and oh MY! What a well executed surprise- congratz to the organisers, congratz to the birthday boy for looking so suave (no pics unfortunately), and congratz to the trooper who truly woke up to smell the coffee to go to her cafe job at 7:00AM despite being a lickle bit sicky!

Here's wot I wore:

Classy or trashy or a marriage of both? Who cares?

SWAGuar (swag + jaguar)

I went for a concrete jungle, city slicker, Samantha Jonesesque look with an incredible blazer I got in British Heart Foundation on the same day I got the golden glass necklace. I had quite the BHF haul as I got the filigree golden cuff (circled in pic below) and the NEXT suit trousers there too. The grand total was £13.96- loves it.

The blazer's leopard accents are furry and the pockets are purely decorative; fashion over function, baby! The blazer has a Versace mob wife vibe as well, especially with the mock Greco-Roman (?) buttons #fakeversacehottie.

I accessorised with the second-hand gold collar necklace and quadruple fake gold hoop earrings like a gilded golden girl. I wore the vegan gold Elf liquid eyeshadow and some Barry M gold glitter on my eyes with lashings of mascara on my lashes, then went for a slightly draggy Anna Nicole Smith / Marilyn Monroe red lippy and faux beauty mark.

soz 4 the crazy eyes. maybe one day I'll smile for you lurvely readers...

mask besmooched with the lippy <3 C'est romantique!

I had my hair re-highlighted on Thursday too and I looooooove it! So Hollywood. Also kudos to Justice For Hair, the salon that I went to, for making their pricing more gender inclusive by doing away with 'male' and 'female' pricing and replacing it with costing based on hair length.

MWAH x

I found it very satisfying using my leopard wallet that evening- totally devoted to taking a walk on the wild side. I've had it since circa 2018, and it's from a brand called Catseye London.

staring competition!

People say leopard print is a neutral these days, and I understand what they mean, but I like leopard print best when it's fabulously brassy and bold or when it's rock n' roll. I've gathered a menagerie of show-stealing leopard print outfits in which leopard print is nothing like neutral:

Joan Collins going for ocelot opulence

Beautiful Amy, a real advocate for leopard looks

 Lil' Kimpeccable!

Much like Lil' Kim, Kim Catrall is tapping into the power and strength of the leopard.

Shania Twain impressed us much then, and she impresses us much now in her fine feline catsuit.

Leopard print was Mel B's Scary Spice uniform

Mel B's Hun-tastic birthday cake

I'd genuinely take Janice's wardrobe over Rachel's any day #justice4janice

Lily Allen in a funky Shrimps coat looking as cool as ice[d coffee]

This could go on FOREVER so I'll leave it there for now.

Thank you for reading, I think this has been one of my favourite blogs outfit-wise thus far. You may well disagree- to each their own, sweet fairies.

Peace and love to you all, come back next week pretty please!

Love from

    1. Thank you Carole! Unfortunately not (although I can't walk in heels anyway, so perhaps it's for the best...)
