'50s Fun, Full-On Flamboyancy

Oh you pretty fairy things! Welcome baaaaaack <3

On Wednesday morning I had three new (old) things that I ordered arrive in the post all at once so it felt like Christmas Day, March edition.

Regular readers sick of seeing me in my New Rock platform shoes (or my mum's friend who said it was a shame to cover up my delicate feet with such clodhoppers) will be pleased to know I have another pair of shoes! The 'delicate feet' comment is hilarious to me as my feet are a size 8, and I've had size 8 shoes from ASOS and Office in the past that were too small, AND when I looked at shoes in shops with my nan as a teenager she'd always say 'ArE yOu SurE tHEY woN't Be ToO NArrOW?'.

Big feet, big heart xoxo

These shoes are sensibly flat, they're made from a sensible material (leather), and they're originally from the ultimate sensible parental-approved shoe shop: ClarksI only paid a fiver for them and they're in pretty good nick- what a steal!

I'd never have thought that I'd one day voluntarily buy a pair of Clarks shoes out of my own money, because my mum and I used to have serious showdowns in Colchester's Clarks when I was in primary school because I wanted flimsy little ballet pumps or those shoes with the doll in the heel, while she insisted I needed something 'sturdy' (UGLY!). Back then in my books, brougues were bleurghhh. Mumzy was shocked when I told her about my my shoes, and we had a good laugh at the Clarks debacle, though she said she used to get very stressed before we went.

The girls who get it, get it... an ingenious idea from the Clarks marketing team.

I'd wanted a pair of saddle shoes since being bewitched by Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks two years ago. I've been swaying to Audrey's Theme every time I tie bows with the ribbony laces.

I wore the new shoes with a 1950s Audrey Horne inspired ensemble. My 'new' second-hand knife-pleat kilt is from a company called Messina Hembry. They plant a tree for every order placed- if only more companies could... take a leaf out of their book. I'd ordered a kilt from eBay before about two years ago (also because of Twin Peaks) but ended up donating it to charity because it was a bit too tight, and I'd been on the hunt for the perfect replacement since; this one is nicer than the first one I had anyways.

The red knit cardigan is from Beyond Retro's website, and with student discount, it cost £20. It turns out in my excitement I forgot to remove the label, and a very kind classmate sitting behind me that day told me it was hanging out. The cardigan is very insulating though; twice in the supermarket this week I wondered if I was hitting menopause early as I had hot flushes, but then I realised on both those occasions I was wearing this cardi- oh well! I'll just have to avoid rushing around in it, and float around in a languorous dreamy daze like an American high school girly in love instead.

Just when you thought the outfit couldn't get any preppier, I topped it off with the ftd. b4 grandad hand-me-doown Burberry Harrington jacket. Unfortunately I didn't have time to photograph the whole 'fit properly that day, as I woke up later than I was meant to and had to finish off some reading before my seminar.

This video footage I sent to my fellow Twin Peaks fanatic and dear old friend Madame Bate is the best I can do for a full outfit glimpse, soz. I don't even know if the vid will work in the blog, but we shall see now it's posted.

Normally I show my outfits in the order that they were worn because I'm a stickler for chronology I suppose, but this week I'm going to go for a more thematical ordering because I wore another vintage outfit using the same red cardi on Sunday. 'Twas another 1950s American high schooler look, but with a more 'look at me, I'm Sandra Dee' spin

This mirror is second-hand, too- someone was selling it outside their house in my hometown village for five squidz.

I wore the cardi with this cute ditsy floral skirt which featured in the blog I accidentally deleted and couldn't recover (a moment of silence please...). The skirt is from NEXT, and my mum bought it for herself but then gave it to me as she didn't wear it much. I went for the brogues again, but alas, no bobby socks- just these purple striped wonders.
FUN FACT! Olivia Newton-John had to be sewn into those drainpipe spandex trousers when she had her Sandy "glow-up" and became someone who throws cigs on the floor to impress a greazy boy (tbf, it was John Travolta).

I also wore a cheerleader ponytail with a red ribbon, my mum's hand-me-down drop pearl earrings (too heavy for her), and a triple layered pearly necklace from a vintage St Helena's charity shop. I went bare legged and was a bit nippy but I'm in spring mode now- tights are to be avoided at all costs (unless worn for fashion purposes, daaaarling!).

I put on enough blusher for the people in the back row of the bleachers.

I did wrap up with the ftd. b4 £1 charity shop Burberry scarf and my dad's old Nike jacket.

I wore this to go to Wagamas with my boyfriend for dins which turned out to be a bit of a flop. STORY TIME! We'd assumed it would be open til the evening, and got there at 4:30pm where the waitress informed us they shut at 5:00pm, but said we could have a quick meal so we went in for a last minute munch. My boyfriend's meal came first and he finished it, but my vegan pad Thai was nowhere to be seen....

It got to 5:10pm, and though there were still diners inside, it looked like the kitchen staff had closed up. I was in meek mode, so my boyf went up and explained the sitch, even though I said I would. Yadda yada yada, my boyf and the kitchen guy he spoke to were both nice and understanding- free takeaway cake on the house from Wagamamas- nice!

Ain't that the truth!

As we waited for the bill, the chef he spoke to came over and gave us a £30 voucher for next time, so we were chuffed and gushed our hearty thank yous. On the way home I got noodles from a place on the road where we live, and my fortune cookie had a prescient message about the virtues of planning (e.g. checking what time the restaurant you want to go to closes):

'If you would have managed your plans properly, it would not cause chaos.'

All in all, t'was actually an auspicious pad Thai mix-up.

The final outfit this week is from Friday.

This is the outfit in its less embellished state- after the meeting, I piled on more accessories for the photoshoot.

I put on a cool lil' outfit because I had an online meeting regarding a fashion journalism internship at Winchester School of Arts which entails reporting on their graduate fashion week shows- exciting! Not only will I see the showcases of talented students and work alongside them, but I can pretend to know more about fashion than I actually do in a magazine just like I do in the blog every week <3 #dilettante

Hardly any people were interested in the internship, so everyone who went for it is on the team- hooray! Anyways, turned out to be a cameras-off meeting so the gladrags weren't necessary, but I enjoyed wearing them for the rest of the day.

These pics are from Sara Camposarcone's Instagram- @saracamposarcone

I went for a hyper-colourful sustainable maximalist look that's inspired by Sara Camposarcone, an Instagram/TikTok style icon who believes more is more is more is more is more.

Touch the rainbow, taste the rainbow, babes
The colourful top with the flouncy hem is one my boyfriend's mum gave to me for Christmas. The label in it looks like it says 'Tanvi' which I've never heard of, but I love the colours and patterns- it reminds me of the illustrations for Yellow Submarine. It's a size large so it had room for me to wear the ftd.b4 charity shop prairie/sailor blouse underneath for layering loveliness. I wore it with the ftd.b4 secondhand eBay denim skirt and my New Rocks, then elevated the all-out colourama with zingy accessories.
Enough accessories? It's a real head scratcher...

The plastic bead necklace is one I made with a children's kit from Sainsburys, and the pompom garland I've worn as a scarf is a piece of room decor which normally festoons my window that my friend Finn bought me years ago. The ftd.b4 sunglasses are from ASOS and are years old, and the little baubley bag is from a chazza shop.

You can ring my bells!
My earrings are all from fast-fashion shops-  fast fashion earrings have been my guilty pleasure, though I haven't bought any for a while as I've tried not to - the ones I'm wearing are several years old (except the more recently acquired silver hoops from Sainsburys). I love the pair with the cluster of colourful bells which ring with jingling joy

Didn't take any makeup pics so enjoy this up close and personal still from a video.

I went for vivacious pinky purple eyeshadow and a metallic pink lip glaze by Collection- the range is called 'Stay the Night' because it has serious longevity, and the colour is 'Catching Feelings'- it's vegan and cheap as chipz.

Can't wait to fill you lovely readers in on the Winchester Fashion Week goings-on. Thank you for reading this week and sticking with me through a Wagamama's story you didn't ask for <3

lots of love,
